It’s here! The final day for the #blackcode28 Black History Month 28 day coding challenge. The project started as a test. A test for myself and now for you. When the idea popped into my head in January it was quickly dismissed by limiting self beliefs. Then another thought popped in my head. What if I acted on every idea that came to me instead of automatically replacing them with skepticism? Why not try this one time and see how it goes? So I did!
I wanted to change the following habits:
- The belief that I could NEVER complete to a 30 day challenge (this was 28 so even better)
- Erase the negative mindset I had around learning to code ( let’s do it together for moral support)
- The belief that it would be a waste of time since body would read this new blog ( it wasn’t, even if only 1 person followed the challenge, I love you too! lol)
I wrote down my idea and the purpose of this challenge on paper, then wrote out all the topics for each day, and then went on to create the graphics. There were days when I didn’t feel like posting. So to combat this I batch scheduled a few days. I also made sure to post the challenge on the instagram page everyday regardless of having no followers. I am so proud to have overcome everything in items 1-3 above. Even when I wanted to quit because laziness and procrastination reared its ugly head. I also grappled with imposter syndrome. My thoughts would be plagued with questions like “who are you to teach about html as a beginner?”.
The Big Mistake
But I just taught what I was learning. Then on day 23 I noticed a big mistake. There was a typo in the website address which is written on ALL OF THE GRAPHICS. The thought of removing everything from Instagram made me want to puke. Because this would mean that the posting dates would be eliminated and we had already reached day 23. I decided to just push forward. I made a mental note to next time have someone else proof the work for the final check.
The best component of this challenge I believe is the journaling sessions. Didn’t you feel so good after each session? I hope it has helped to release any negative blocks you have about learning to code or breaking into the tech field.
Final Writing Prompt
Today is the last day and we have one final assignment. Break out your journals for the last time and write about the following prompt.
That is it! I hope you enjoyed this challenge. The next series will document my journey applying for the Data Science for All Empowerment Program know as DS4A.
Incase nobody has told you yet today, You Are Amazing!
