Welcome back for day 20 of the #blackcode28 Black History Month 28 day coding challenge. Today we have a fun activity for you.
On days 4, 5, and 6 we tackled they why for transitioning into a tech career, taking ownership of that career, and creating a vision board. Since we want this challenge to instill new habits that are easy to continue, topics are introduced slowly. We waited until day 20 to talk about starting a mediation practice and what to do with you vision boards!

I know you are probably tired of hearing about MEDITATION when forming new habits. But it really does help with focusing your awareness on the goals that you want out of life. Instead of telling you how to mediate (I will not because I am not a Buddhist Monk and still struggle with my own consistency) I will offer a few suggestions to get you started:
Tips for Practicing Meditation
- Watch the Headspace series on Netflix
- Try using the free version of the Headspace app
- Search for “how to meditate” videos on YouTube. Did you know there were different types of meditation practices? One may work better for you.
- Start with 5 minutes
Yes, you read number four correctly. Start with just 5 minutes. It is an easy and manageable amount of time. Find a time everyday that works for you, set your timer, and sit down to meditate for 5 minutes.
Once you get comfortable with practicing meditation for 5 minutes everyday, add 1 minute each week. Remember go slowly with building your habits so that they remain sustainable. We want to also incorporate visualizing with the vision boards on a daily basis. Put your vision board in a place where it can’t be missed. When reviewing your vision board use all the love and feeling of intensity you can. It may even bring you to tears thinking about what is possible and what lies ahead for your career and transition into the coding world. All you need is 5 minutes to practice everyday and it will ultimately change your life.
See you tomorrow for day 21!
